I teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Almost all of my courses involve the interaction of image and text to communicate ideas about science and healthcare. In some cases the image is primary, in others, the text, but in all cases I encourage students to think of communication as a comprehensive package in which all elements must work together and be designed to reach, and meet the needs of, specific target audiences. I also emphasize the importance of analyzing and creating health and science communication with an awareness of its larger cultural, social, and institutional contexts.
